Bloody Life

Last week, i got a text message from Johanna, a friend of hers is in need of a type O blood type for a patient in Silliman Medical Center diagnosed to have a dengue fever, a typical disease condition found only in the tropical areas of southeast Asia caused by a mosquito bite. The mother mosquito usually lays their eggs at areas where there are water collection (meaning: you have to clean you gutter and canals!) The mosquito injects a virus that cause bleeding, high grade fever, chills and the most obvious symptom will be the low platelet count. i have heard about dengue fever many times and it usually affects children, actually even adults are at risk but adults usually stays in the offices and children usually play outside so they are more prone to this disease. Anyway, I had hesitations in giving blood. The first time was when my friend Gt (read: gee-tee) came to me and asked my what is my blood type, i said a big "OHH". There was a smile in her face. Her father was diagnosed with a liver cancer and she needs 8 packs of type O blood for the blood transfusion. Pity.

I realized, i was already in Red Cross office. 1 pack of fresh whole blood was sucked right out of me. I was just glad to help.

What happened 2 years ago, is happening now. I was asked really awkward questions, like homosexual sex and those stuff, well, it doesn't really matter anyway. i waited for an hour just to be taken with blood. Needles were huge!. Painful.

I am just happy with what i did, i wasn't able to share this to many people, but i am glad. Helping people will always make me happy. i saw a friend, prince, he is also donating blood to the same patient. Glad there are still kind people on earth anyway. *Grin smile*
